He used to sign off of his American Top 40 weekly radio show with the sentiment “Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars”. I must admit that striking a workable balance between optimism and a grounded viewpoint has been a difficult challenge during the initial stages of this journey. On the one hand, I need to maintain objectivity as I consider the many treatment options at my disposal. On the other hand, the moment I buy into the negativity that the word “cancer” so powerfully engenders is the same moment I become a dead man.
So with all due respect to Mr. Kasem, I will maintain objectivity while my feet soar far above the ground. It’s the only way to touch the stars.
This mountain has been conquered before and it will be again. Why not by me?
