Snail racing . . .

I received a phone call from my doctor’s office in NYC this morning advising that they had requested that the Santa Barbara clinic send films of the heart ultrasound to them but that they had not yet received them. They asked that I check into the situation and facilitate if necessary.

I called the local clinic. The individual I spoke with there said he knew of a request from NY but understood it to be for the corrected report (which had not yet been sent) and was unaware that a duplicate disk had been requested. He promised to burn a copy to disk immediately. In an effort to not leave to chance those things we can control, my parents are on their way to the clinic to retrieve the disk and overnight mail it to NY. I’m grateful that the NY docs will be reviewing the ultrasound images directly rather than basing their impressions on someone else’s report . . .

With any luck the disk will arrive in NY tomorrow. That means I probably won’t hear anything substantive from my NY doc until Friday at the earliest. But if it takes until next week I won’t be disappointed. I’d like to have a good weekend.

It’s hard to know just how much pressure should be exerted to keep this train moving. The squeaky wheel may get the grease, but the really squeaky wheel runs the risk of being taken off the wagon.
