It appears that the diagnostic phase of this journey is officially over. I now have the results of all tests performed to date. And I think we’ve collected more information than we really wanted to know. Certainly more than I wanted to know.
Biopsy Results: As was expected, the biopsy confirmed that this is liposarcoma. Again. Somewhat surprising, to me anyway, is that the cell differentiation has been graded at 1 on a scale of 3. Meaning that it is considered to be the least aggressive in behavior. Try reconciling that against the evidence of “diffuse metastatic disease”. The pathologist plans to compare Tuesday’s sample with material collected during the 2000 biopsy to see if there are any subtle differences.
CT Scan Results: I am told that the scan confirms my presumption that the cardiac tumor is a liposarcoma, not a myxoma or some other -oma. Two or three small nodules in the lungs were also identified.
Okay, so this thing is in my musculature, retroperitineum, heart, lungs, and bones. An equal opportunity monster. I’m told that this makes it a Stage IV.
If I’m gonna climb a mountain, it might as well be Everest.
