Weight Update

The decision to discontinue taking Lasix seems to be a good one so far. You may recall that I had grown weary of sore kidneys and was concerned about my precipitous weight loss. I cut the dose in half on Tuesday August 5, and stopped taking it altogether on Friday, August 8. Following is a daily record of my weight (taken first thing in the morning) and Lasix dosage for the past week:

M ... 8/4 ... 154.0 ... 40 mg
Tu .. 8/5 ... 153.6 ... 20 mg
W ... 8/6 ... 154.0 ... 20 mg
Th ... 8/7 ... 154.4 ... none
F .... 8/8 ... 154.8 .... none
St ... 8/9 ... 155.8 .... none
Sn .. 8/10 . 158.0 .... none

I am relieved to see that my weight has rebounded coincident with the discontinuation of the Lasix, suggesting that the loss was not the result of some systemic issue. I still feel great – the best I have for months. No lung congestion. Kidney soreness is almost gone. I take a 3-mile walk every morning without any stress or strain, and sleep peacefully at night. I even had a glass of red wine last night for the first time in two weeks without adverse consequence. Although I suppose at some level I’ve always understood the relationship between diet and health, I am amazed at how quickly and effectively my body is now able able to cope with my compromised heart function via the elimination of sodium from my diet.

Now, I await word from the medical community regarding what to do about the underlying issue . . .

Wow! That's quite a turn-around in weight in a one week period. I'm so glad you're feeling better.

Still willing to go bang on office doors here in NYC if you need me to...
