Labor Day

Today marks the 27th consecutive morning in which my day began with a 3-mile hike. There is nothing particularly special about that number in our base-ten counting system other than it happens to be a perfect cube (3*3*3=27). But it is significant to me because neither hell nor highwater nor assault by nail gun has succeeded in knocking me off track so far. An MRI scan, a CT scan, a biopsy, and much bad news have been packed into those 27 days. And the hiking continues.

I’m off to Santa Barbara for the day to visit with family and friends. But the plan of attack for moving forward has essentially been formulated. I’ll discuss it in the next communication which hopefully will be posted tonight. Until then, enjoy your Labor Day and remember that in the world of western attire this is the day that tradition dictates you retire your straw cowboy hat for the winter and start wearing your felt hat. Personally, I’m rummaging through the closet in search of a bulletproof helmet . . .
