Bodily function update . . .

I feel so old. Momentous occasions for me now center around successfully negotiating bodily functions that I mastered as an infant.

But last night’s accomplishment is newsworthy, at least within the context of this blog: my bowels are moving again. For the first time in a month. This has not been an easy process. Gratitude to Cecily for her persistence in finding the right combination of chemical/mechanical inducement. This is what we have had to sort through: stool softeners, sennakot, enemas, glycerin suppositories, dulcolax, milk of magnesia, prescription lactulose, etc. After weeks of pummeling the problem with this arsenal, and four days after abandoning the opiate pain killers, I am pleased to report that this problem is now completely “behind” me. Hallelujah.

But it has taken its toll. I have not been eating much during the stoppage and so have lost considerable muscle mass. But I still have my appetite and plan to make up for lost meals . . .

Remember that mountain I said I was going to climb? I do not remember climbing it, but I certainly climbed down off of one this morning.

Hi Paul, Never thought I would be so excited for you to have a bowel movement! Heck. Nothing is sacred, anymore, least of all, personal plumbing. May the "force" continue to be with you.

Take care. Soooo glad to hear from you again.
