It was a great day . . .

Taylor got his “dream car” today! As we approached Santa Barbara, he finalized his preferences in terms of make, model, configuration, transmission, and color. At the top of the list was a new 2008 Honda Civic EX Coupe, 5-speed manual transmission, galaxy gray. A popular car of limited availability. And when we arrived at the Santa Barbara dealership, they just so happened to have one such car on the lot. Being clearance time in advance of the arrival of the new 2009 models, we were able to negotiate a good deal. It was a very proud moment for both of us as he drove it off the lot . . . (thanks to Jason for researching alternatives.)

Our first stop was at my parent’s house. Nana and Poppi were ecstatic to see Taylor in his new car. We visited with them for a couple of hours and then headed off to rendezvous with Brandon and Deanna at a local health food restaurant.

It was a wonderful dinner visit. We spoke of hope and fear and love. For two and a half hours. Deanna pointed out that the Buddhist master that I quoted in an earlier post was wrong: hope can alter the seasons. I agree with her. And Brandon reminded me that as I head off into the mother of all battles to be sure to allow for plenty of time with loved ones. These kids are wise far beyond their twenty years.
