Of CT scans and MRIs . . .

I emailed the cardiac surgeon at SF2 today to let him know that the echo will be delivered tomorrow (Wednesday) by noon. I took the opportunity to indicate that a CT scan of my chest will likely be performed next week (I did not disclose that this was at the insistence of the cardiac surgeon at SF1) and asked him if that would suffice in lieu of the MRI that he had requested. He responded that “it wouldn’t hurt to do the CT” and that the MRI could be performed later. His bias is clearly in favor of the MRI to visualize the heart. I find it interesting that I haven’t even spoken with either of these surgeons yet and there is already disagreement between them on an issue as fundamental as which pre-operative imaging technique is superior. I’m sure that once we begin discussing the nuances of my situation and proposed surgical approaches that more profound differences in attack will become apparent. This was certainly the case fifteen years ago and it appears that nothing has changed when it comes to cutting-edge cutting. This is why it’s so important to me to shop around before I buy. I’m only gonna get one shot at this . . .
