The Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner I saw today was the real deal. I didn’t understand even half of what she said, but she said it with great conviction. So I let her stick 18 needles in my body. I knew that I was in for a treat when the first two were inserted at the top of my head. She didn’t stop until she reached my ankles. She then attached electrodes to several of them and flipped the switch for 30 minutes.
She also prescribed many herbs. I have no idea what they are but I will take them. She said that herbs have demonstrated anti-cancer activity while acupuncture is designed to restore balance in the body. Apparently the heart is fire and the kidneys are water. When something is wrong with one, it creates problems in the other. This might explain the kidney soreness I’ve been experiencing. (She described the heart/kidney, fire/water relationship before I said anything about my kidneys.) Interestingly, western literature also describes kidney issues that can arise from mitral valve problems. Hmmm . . .
She indicated that herbs need to be acquired from a good source but that you can receive competent acupuncture anywhere. Even in Solvang? She said the way to pick an acupuncturist is to open the Yellow Pages (she started to lose all credibility here) and then find a practitioner that is Chinese and that was trained in China (nice recovery!).
I start my herbs tomorrow morning . . . why not? Ninety billion Chinese can't be wrong, can they?

That is great. Was this your first acupuncture? And herbs too... Fantastic. You don't need my guy. This is what he would do, so if you found the real deal without having to audition no less, bag mine. What a productive day!
