Green Tea

My Uncle Oscar kindly forwarded an article to me from the popular press:

“Drinking green tea may not only prevent cancer – it may also shrink tumors. University of Mississippi Medical Center researchers gave water mixed with a green tea antioxidant called EGCG to mice with breast cancer. After five weeks, their tumors were 66 percent smaller and 68 percent lighter than those in mice who drank just water.” Reader’s Digest, October 2008

It’s fascinating how the Johnny-come-lately western medical establishment continues to “discover” old-world remedies that have long been practiced by ancient cultures. But we still don’t seem get it, as evidenced by the closing line concerning “availability”:

“5+ years (in drug form).”

Huh? Or, you could just boil some water and . . . nah.

Meanwhile, I continue my Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments of those horrible tasting “teas”. If green tea is therapeutic, these wretched poisons must really be kicking butt. As Cecily tells me as I struggle to consume my daily “decoctions”: “We’re curing cancer over here, baby – that stuff’s bound to taste nasty. I’ll let you know when they come up with the delicious cure for cancer. In the meantime, you’d better drink that shit.”

And so I do.

Paul,

Continuing to enjoy your blog. Seems only you can make dealing with a life threatening illness fodder for first-rate entertainment. And this comment is really for Cecily. Gotta love that woman! Besides looking gorgeous, she's got spunk. I sure don't wanna get in her way or mince words with her. What a true and loving companion for you!
